On December 5th, 2013, Pantone announced that Radiant Orchid would be the color of the Year for 2014. Previous years included Emerald (2013), Tangerine Tango (2012), Honeysuckle (2011), and Turquoise (2010). This rich lilac/lavender color as Pantone describes it "blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm." One of my favorite flowers is the orchid which to me is one of the most unique flowers around. I was especially glad to see this flower's color represent an intense desire of creativity and honest joy that I plan to live by in 2014.
Incorporating this new vibrant purple hue into a college dorm room is simple. A change in comforter of duvet cover can bring a fresh look to plain white sheets and bleak dorm walls. Trina Turk, notorious for its bright colors, appropriately displays its take on radiant orchid with the following comforter and duvet cover. Duvet covers are the most economical option for college students because they can utilize a plain or existing comforter and spice up the looks with different duvet covers depending on one's mood. I was quite excited to see that the Trina Turk ikat print duvet cover that I currently have in my dorm (in yellow) is also available in the color of 2014.
Now if you don't want to break the bank on a comforter or duvet cover (or honestly just to lazy to remake your bed with different comforter especially with a lofted bed), throw pillows are the way to go. They are easy to accessorize with and can bring in new colors to a space that already has an existing color scheme. Last summer as I was decorating my own dorm, I fell in love with this website, Society6, and their amazing (and inexpensive) throw pillow collection. The prints are phenomenal and some even have amazing quotes. While browsing recently, I searched the color radiant orchid and found an immense selection of pillows in all shades. Below are some of my favorites however, there are so many others to chose from the fit all types of personalities.
Below are some great chairs I found on Pinterest, and this jogged the idea of reupholstering chairs in your room with chic prints like these. And while you probably won't have such luxurious chairs in your college dorm or would even have the ability to change the chairs if you did, this fun DIY project would be great for a more permanent living space (like your nice comfy and spacious room at home).
The following are some of my favorite yet simple ways to incorporate this trendy color into one's wardrobe. Whether its a simple and classic cardigan, statement necklace, or a fabulous dress, you can easily find ways to show off your favorite version of radiant orchid.

While perusing Pinterest, one of my favorite hobbies, I came across this pin from Nordstrom (my all time favorite department store) which showed their picks for including Pantone's color of the year into your life. I just thought this was too good not to share. The BP fashion blogger who posted this story included so many easy ways to be radiant in orchid (and we all love simple yet fabulous fashion!).
Cheers!
